The artwork is taken from a genuine antique engraving held in a public collection — an old master's line work, not a generated image — printed in a single bone-cream ink on deep black cotton. The result is a dense, high-contrast chiaroscuro illustration in the tradition of Doré-style romantic engraving: every serpent rendered in fine hatched lines, every shadow built from crosshatch and scratch, the whole figure dissolving at its lower edge into ink drips and ghost marks before giving way to a vast field of negative space and a small, widely-spaced capital lockup set far beneath.

The image itself is unforgettable. Medusa caught at the exact instant of her death — Perseus's polished shield held at arm's length before her, her own reflection staring back from its surface. Her serpent hair recoils outward in every direction, each snake mouth open and screaming. Oleander blossoms erupt from the wounds where the serpents tear free of her scalp, petals falling like blood. And across her throat, creeping upward to her jaw, the first stone-grey stillness of her own petrification — her expression suspended between fury and the end of everything. The monochrome black-and-cream palette makes every line land harder than colour ever could.
